Therapeutic injections for jaw grinding, excessive sweating and some types of tension headache by partially paralysing the muscles of the jaw, tension and jaw grinding (also known as bruxism) are significantly reduced. You actually just won’t be able to clench your jaw! This has excellent effects on chronic jaw and sometimes even neck pain, and helps improve sleep. Sleep is improved by not being able to sustain tension in the jaw for hours during the night. This also helps some types of neck tension by overall reducing muscle tension and stress in the face and jaw. The therapeutic substance used is the same as for anti wrinkle injections, but larger doses are required as the muscle is bigger than those around the brow and eyes. The effect also lasts 3 – 4 months and can be repeated at appropriate intervals.
Another application for these injections is for excessive armpit sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis). Multiple small doses are injected into multiple points in the axilla (armpit) and within 2 weeks there is a dramatic reduction in sweat production.
